Privacy at the shaping bay
This is a small static website for a small shaping room. It collects almost nothing, and this page says exactly what, who sees it, and how to get it removed.
01What the website does and does not do
The pages you read here are static files. There is no account system, no comment box, no newsletter form, no advertising pixel, and no analytics script. We do not set cookies and we do not build a profile of what you read.
The wave and board calculator on the homepage runs inside your browser. The weight, wetsuit, and swell values you type stay on your device and are never sent to us.
02Fonts and server logs
The pages load typefaces from Google Fonts. When your browser asks for them, Google receives your IP address and the browser details that come with any web request, under its own policy. If that bothers you, block third-party fonts and the site will still read fine in your default fonts.
Whoever hosts the files also keeps ordinary request logs: the address making the request, the time, and the page asked for. We use these to see whether the site is up. We do not use them to identify visitors.
03When you write to the bay
If you email Kai or the shaping bay, we keep your message, your address, and anything you send about your build. For a custom order that can include height, weight, wetsuit, ability, and the breaks you surf, because we need them to size a board.
We keep an order file for the life of the board, through the warranty period, and for three years after that so we can repair or copy a board you love. After that we delete it, unless the law asks us to hold an invoice longer. Shaping notes you give us are used for your board, not for marketing.
Photos of finished boards go on this site or social media only when you say yes. You can say no, and you can change your mind later; we will take a photo down when you ask.
04Payments and who else sees your details
Deposits and balances are taken through a third-party payment processor, and we do not store full card numbers. We share the minimum with our accountant, with the carrier if you ask us to ship, and with anyone who holds a lawful order for it.
We do not sell your information, and we do not share it for advertising.
05Your rights as a California resident
California law gives you the right to know what personal information a business holds about you, to ask for a copy, to ask us to correct it, and to ask us to delete it. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of, and we do not treat you differently for asking, charge for a first request, or refuse service because you made one. You can also ask an authorized agent to make the request on your behalf, and we will check with you before we act.
To make a request, write to [email protected] from the address we have on file. We will confirm it is you by replying there, answer within 45 days, and tell you if we need more time. Some records, such as invoices, we must keep for tax reasons, and we will say so if that applies.
06Young surfers and changes
Plenty of young shredders end up in the bay, usually with a parent. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16 without a parent or guardian involved in the conversation.
If we change what the site collects, we will change this page first and update the date below. Written October 2026. Questions about any of this are welcome at the bay address below.
